John Michael Bednar, M.D. is one
of The Hand Centers’ outstanding experts for orthopedics
and the hand. Born in Wallington, New Jersey, Dr. Bednar
earned his B.A. in biochemistry and his M.D. at the University
of Pennsylvania. He was invited to remain at the University
of Pennsylvania for a surgical internship, residencies
in orthopedic research and orthopedic surgery, and a hand
surgery fellowship.
Since that time, Dr. Bednar has contributed
greatly to the growing body of knowledge in the young
field of hand specialization through research, writings,
and assistant professorships at Robert Wood Johnson Medical
School, the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine,
and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
A past President of the Philadelphia
Hand Society, Area Leader of the American Foundation for
Surgery of the Hand, and past Editor-in-Chief of the University
of Pennsylvania Orthopedics Journal, Dr. Bednar has delivered
scores of lectures and presentations nationally and internationally.
He has also written numerous original papers, abstracts,
chapters and articles, and is editor of the book Complications
of Common Hand Procedures. In 1993, he joined The Hand
Centers, world leaders in medical treatment. Dr. Bednar’s
expertise includes treating disorders of the hand, wrist,
elbow and shoulder.
